Start the Tour!

We are happy you have chosen to visit us today and hope you enjoy your time. The airfield has been in existence for quite some time but has become more widely recognized in the new century with its commercial space flight endeavors. The Mojave Airport was first opened in 1935 as a small, rural airfield serving the local gold and silver mining industry. In July 1942, the U.S. Marine Corps took over the field and vastly expanded it as the Marine Corps Auxiliary Air Station (MCAAS) Mojave. In 1961, Kern County obtained title to the airport. The airfield’s name was changed to its current name at the start of 2013.

Today’s tour will guide you around the airport with 9 stops along the way. Each stop, or “interest point”, is selected to highlight the major attractions of the airfield. At each interest point a brief background of the views will be provided along with external links for further reading. The map at the top of the page will highlight the interest point with an orange circle. The description of each interest point will start with written directions of how to drive there from the previous point.

Let’s get going!
